It’s kind of a funny feeling when you see your own apartment up for rent on the internet. I guess what I’m saying is that there is no going back at this point. Every week our apartment is looking a bit more empty and the proverbial glass, that is our “tavel ticket”, is getting fuller by the day. Our dinners are now being enjoyed over our backyard table and chairs as our main table and chairs have been sold already. It beats eating on the floor that’s for sure. That being said, we might have to sit on our floor a bit as we’ve just sold our couch. Things are falling into place and moving along quickly, for axample Louis’ stroller has been sold and we just recently found lovely people who will be renting the place that we’ve called home for the past years!
Wow, it’s unbleivable how much “stuff” one accumulates over time; it seems as though half of it would more than suffice. In that sense it is really freeing to let go of some things that simply aren’t essential. For example, I have these two Lava-lamps that I thought were “megacool” during my disco going days, and it turns out that this guy I ended up selling them to was really genuinely happy to them. It’s just nice to see something that gave you some pleasure is able to do the same for someone else. If it were up to my husband, we’d sell everything including our old socks. But for me there are just a few things that are important to me and that I’d like to keep. Things such as photoalbums, or the deer antler piece of art we have had hanging and beautifying our living room area. I imagine that the antlers will fit perfectly in the old farmhouse that we will hopefully find and settle in once we get back from our trip.
The first flights have been booked, and slowly but surely a palpable sense of excitement is building. The first three nights after arriving in Bali will be spent in a nice hotel to give us some time to sleep off the jetlag before the room-hunting commences. After that we will have a look around the area, sort of get in the flow there and who knows perhaps we will meet some people who can recommend accomodations or maybe we might just stumble across some ourselves. EASY!
Now, on to everything that needs to be taken care of on this end, before thinking about what’s next 🙂
There is really a lot to worry about when you begin to consider being gone for a long time… and then a documentary on New Zealand starts to play as part of the evening Television programm and in no time your thoughts are worryfree again to dream what’s to come!
We are already now so excited for our trip to finally start. The countdown has begun…
